From the beginning the statue has struck me as the Colossus of Rhodes more than anything. Especially with its juxtaposition withthe entry to th island.

in the last esp. they keep asking " what lies in the shadow of the statue?" what does that mean, in the espoide where we see the feet of the statue it seem to be next to the water. how could they see the statue when we saw it sayid and sun sailed around to it,and it was tall but inless they were on top of a mountain they wouldn't see a shadow. not sure

The well was just about right over the wheel in the Orchid. Sawyer and them saw the back of the statue by where the well would be.
If it's an actual place in the shadow of the statue (as opposed to some code word or metaphor), my bet is that it's the FDW they're talking about.

IT alway made it seem like the fdw was inland ,the statue is right on the water. The statue is big, its shadow would be rather long near sunset/sunrise.

The Temple is in the shadow of the Statue...

at least figuratively... as in being protected by the statue.

I hope this isn't a "smells like carrots" moment.
