Okay, I can buy this, but I'm not getting why there needs to be this repetition of, as markedman mentioned in the Rousseau's Crew post, an archetypal group. I mean not specifically markedman's post, but just the whole idea in general. As a viewer, I can accept the idea of an island that has a will and the notion that it needs, or is looking for, a particular group of people to do some "work", but why? I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere, but I'd love to hear what ideas people have out there behind the idea of being a proxy. Does the island demand sacrifice? What is the island doing and by what right and power does it do these things? Or, is this one of those time things where, as Ben says to Jack in The Looking Glass, he's about to repeat some terrible series of events again because he's chosen to phone Naomi's boat? Wax on!
