I think its still up in the air. Committing suicide is a sin and if Locke would would have hung himself he could jeopardize his specialness.
Ben chocking him out preserved this. He had to die, but not by suicide.
Yea Ben.

Im thinking that Ben is the bad guy. It would make more sense than widmore. Ben lies all the time and doesnt seem to care about anyone but himself.

Ben is a psycopath. Just look at how he treated Juliet, and Goodwin, and Locke, and Danielle, and everyone he meets. Evil little bug-eyed monster. Love 'im.

I think I'm leaning more towards being on Widmore's side, because the only thing we have seen bad about him was he did dnot like Desmond, and was a jerk when he was younger. However, Ben has helped kill all of the Dharma Initiative, sent Goodwin off to be killed, allowed his daughter to be killed instead of turning himself in, he allowed the freighter to be blown up, he treated Juliet like his property, killed Locke, etc, etc, etc.
Ben is evil.

People, people, WIDMORE IS A D-BAG TOO! I don't understand the people saying Widmore is good now, or saying he's not as bad as Ben. So easily convinced by a bit of smooth talking... Remember this? 324 BODIES! That is not something a good person does. Ben and Widmore are terrible and selfish people. Ben AND Widmore. Sayid, on the other hand, rules. That is all.

Is there some unwritten law that there has to be a good guy and a bad guy? Why not two bad guys. I am fairly certain Ben is a bad guy, but I am thinking that Widmore is no saint either. (Freighter, for example and all those dead bodies he stuck in the fake wreckage of 815 - good guys do not rob graves. Both are bad guys.

I was confused on the whole body thing too, but i watched season 4 again. There is one point we hear the captain tell Sayid and Desmond that Ben put the bodies there and there is one point we hear Tom tell Michael that Widmore but the bodies there. So, for me it is still up in the air as to who REALLY put them there.
