In the "White Rabbit" piece, they state that we'll find out why his father is wearing white tennis shoes. Did we really find out why? I know someone said they were a "proxy" of some sort, but do we really need to know the reason why.

Jack explained how his dad needed shoes to be buried in and how he just went and got some tennis shoes because he didn't really care. I'm thinking that's what they meant by us "finding out why." Not a deeper meaning, just an explaination.
