Not a huge fan of the prequels, but I've wondered since I saw this one: When Mace Windu reflects Palpatine's force lightning back at him, Palpatine turns all butt head ugly. Did the lightning scar him, or merely reveal his true form, perhaps melting whatever high teck disguise he'd been employing. I tend to think the latter, as force lightning doesn't seem to scar, as evidenced by his use of it on Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi. Thoughts?

I just think that he had to get all old a wrinkley really quick so the producers decided upon that. Actually, I don't think that Palpatine had a disguise. I think that using the force lightening did have quite an effect on him. That's just me though.

Hmm, perhaps, but then he sure does seem to recover quickly. Midiclorians at work! I guess it's a lot of thought for a film I didn't really care for. Anybody else? Anyone read the books, does it ever touch on or hint at this point?

This is actually a highly debated question, that has never fully been answered. But the consensus is of the latter, that while fighting Mace Windu, Palpatine ceased to exist and became Darth Sidious, much like Anakin became Vader. That the force lighting channeled all of Sidious's malice, revealing his true identity.

Now that's a good answer.

I guess it's still ambiguous. The force lightning "channeled all of Sidious's malice" leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But so did the movie, so I guess I can let it go until I meet George Lucas.
