Jay and Jack, since Lost is off till Feb 09, I would like to suggest Fringe recaps! I watched the premiere last night and it was a pretty cool show. Reminded me a lot of the X-files. Also a Lost reference was dropped talking about a case where a person doesn't age. My crack-pot theory is that the company Massive Dynamic in Fringe will somehow be working with Hanso or Dharma in Lost!

Personally, and I know I probably speak alone, but I feel this is a rather hopeless move from the respected J J Abrams to make a show that is unoriginal, I do think JJ is an awesome director but Frindge seems alot like X-files, I would like to hear some opinions on th show as i coulod be suprised and it may have the potential to be very big.

I actually liked it. I had heard mixed reviews from a number of people before and had lower expectations, which perhaps helped me like it more when I saw it.
I didn't mind some obvious themes being pulled from X-files, although I thought it was interesting to have this be less about the threat of aliens, and more about the threat of technology advancing out of control past humanity's ability to cope with it. I think that has some interesting possiblities to take the show some place more interesting.
I did think that maybe it pushed the envelope too far on some of the things they showed - a little too far past suspension of disbelief. I did like the plot twist on who the villian was at the end. I missed the first 15 minutes of it though and didn't understand what the guy said to the female agent at the end when he died (feel free to let me know if anyone caught that) - something about ask why someone (who?) sent her to the warehouse in the first place? Who was being refered to? The black agent trying to recruit her (aka Abbadon)?

I don't say this just to hate: Fringe is one of the worst dramatic works I've ever witnessed, in any form. After walking out after the first half hour when they premiered it at Comic Con, I decided to give it another shot and finished watching the pilot last night. Writing: terrible. Acting: worse. Premise: unoriginal. "Twist": my freaking eyeballs out if I ever have to watch another second.

I downloaded the pilot episode some weeks ago - and I have not seen what was broadcast last night - and found it an OK show - just that - OK - kinda nice effects on the "Incredible Melting Man" (who I knew would not survive the episode - I kept thinking of Robert Partrick in the pilot episode of Stargate:Atlantis - a "star" known to the audience there just for the pilot).
What cracked me up was that at about the half way point was the use of a cut from the LOST season 1 soundtrack - "Hollywood and Vines" about half way through. I know Michael Giacchino did the music for Fringe - and maybe that what we heard was not the final soundtrack for the episode - but it was kinda funny to hear that.
The big "location" graphics are kinda cool - but annoying too.
Oh well - I'll watch a few episodes and see what happens.

OK...my opinion...I thought Fringe was disappointing. Massive Dynamic was WAY too Dharma-like. What I like about LOST are the increadible depth of the characters and their complex relationships. It is a "character-driven" show. JJ Abrams was able to establish that from the very first episode of LOST. I saw none of that in Fringe. And the twist at the end was totally predicable. I thought he was using her from the beginning. I guess I really wanted Fringe to be my LOST "fix" for now, but I'm still jonzin'.

I thought it was good but not great. I would give it a 3 out of 5. Its a show that will keep me busy until lost comes back on in February. Its a decent show to watch until then. That's the way i look at it.

I'm surprised so many Lost fans here didn't like Fringe. I agree, it's no Lost, but I'm thankful to have something new and interesting to watch until Lost comes back! Also, in the Sept. 12th issue of Entertainment Weekly, JJ Abrams says the pilot doesn't quite nail his character-driven series vision: "In many ways, the first episodes that follow are better. They're much more focused." Let's give it a few episodes before we start judging it!

I did enjoy the pilot and will give the show a chance. I don't say this just to hate: Fringe is one of the worst dramatic works I've ever witnessed, in any form. Premise: unoriginal. "Twist": my freaking eyeballs out if I ever have to watch another second. Then apparently, you only watch shows that are perfect. I didn't find anything wrong on the production side of things. I thought the acting was fine (for semi-unknown actors), writing, I thought was fine; And yes, the story is not original....But there is nothing new under the sun. And notice I say "fine". No, it wasn't the greatest show of all time but it was better than most stuff you have out there. Nothing against ya man. I'm just talking.
