...or anyone else for that matter. I need a new mp3 player; been using the same 128mb player, 'old reliable', or several years. I don't really need a special video player; more something for music, podcasts, and audiobooks. I was just going to go with an iPod classic, the 5th gen 30GB model, but do you have any thoughts on the matter? You seem to be the Man when it comes to this sort of thing, tech or music-related. Any advice would be appreciated.

The 30GB iPod classic is a great choice. Simple, no messing and huge capacity. I "upgraded" to the iPod Touch a while back and I have to say, even though the big screen is very cool and playing with the touch gestures etc is fun, I miss having the extra storage of my old 30GB iPod. Of course, if you're upgrading from a 128MB player, then the 8GB or 16GB iTouch would still be huge by comparison. Also, don't forget that even though Apple have a huge share in the market, there are loads of great mp3 players out there by other makers ... www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/MP3_Players.1/Cowon_iAudio.15/IAUDIOD24GB/Cowon_iAudio_D2_4GB_MP3_Player.2282.htmlThat's a beauty!

FWIW, I have 50 or 60 gigs on my iTunes but only a 4 gig nano. I have the old nano that can't play video. I love it. Keep it in my pocket, drop it (it does have a leather case but no other protection) no hard drive = no damage, sync it in a flash, all in all a great little device. I have it set up like this: - Podcasts - a lot of them - Playlists - All of my Jazz, All of my classical, everything I first heard on CBC radio three, a running playlist and an "odd mixture" playlist. Then I have a 1 gig that I put towards all my other music. Every once in a while I delete what's in there and it randomly fills it again. - Audiobooks - I get them from the library, put in each CD, us "Join Tracks" so I end up with one track CD, and then apply a free add on called "Make Bookmarkable" so it remembers where I am in the track. - Nike+ For all my running info.
Can't recommend the iPod Nano too highly, I live by it...
