i will vote that jammers should not be used sure cell phones are annoying but in this day and age of international terrorism and after what happened in that Moscow theater a few years back people need to have a communication device on hand at all times

I work in an IMAX theatre, and part of my duties are to remind everyone to silence their cell phones before the film begins; I fully support the jamming technology, presuming it works and does not interfere with service outside the theater.

I'd say if the jamming forced all the phones into silent or vibrate mode, then do it. You wouldn't want an emergency go unnoticed because of a jammer. I usually turn my phone on silent and just check it once or twice during the movie.
The really annoying part is when people answer the d**n phone without getting up. "Oh hey, what's up? Nothing, just watching a movie. Yeah, let's get together later." So annoying.

yea, jamming is kinda intrusive, i mean, what if some surgeon or person like that is at a movie and someone's life depends on getting a call? i agree with keifer, if you could jam the ringtone, that would be nifty, but otherwise, just trust most people to be decent moviegoers.

I've been distracted in a lot of movies recently because of people texting even when their phone is on silent. The very bright screen pulls you out of the thrall of the cinema very quickly.

Is it really that big of a problem? I mean I have seen TONS of movies in theaters, and every once in a while it goes off and very rarely someone answers and talks, but really I don't think it's a huge deal. Most people just put it on silent or go outside to talk.

The best solution I've heard is from comedian Daniel Tosh. "I think to myself What Would Jesus Do. So I lit him on fire and sent him to hell."

The underlying problem seems to be that people are just generally inconsiderate these days.

The big problem I have with some movie goers is not the cell phones, yes, there are one or two people who should never be allowed in a theater because they are too stupid not to talk on one, but it is the people who have to ask questions or have to talk to the people they are with constantly durring the movie. That is a problem that has been going on alot longer than the cell phone issue...lol
