The name of the song was "The Load Out/Stay" = and yes Jack - I am with you on that. "Running on Empty" was a great album.
Great song - yeah it's slow - and yeah you'll probably lose Jack - but it is a great song.
A song that I - Jay - have actually performed on stage - and sang the High part during the "Stay" section. But remember - that was YEARS ago ;D
Ain't no way I am hitting that note now LOL

I must've listened to "Running on Empty" a hundred times. Great album. For those who haven't heard it, it's a theme album, about being on the road. There's a song recorded while on the bus, complete with traffic sounds, and several recorded in hotel rooms. On those, or at least some of those, a cardboard box is used as a bass drum.

I used to like DMB a lot, until the last new album came out. I really wanted to like it, but...no. They are, however, an awesome band to see live. My 2 cents on the song is that it's not my favorite in the world & it IS sorta long when it could have said everything it needed to in about 3 minutes BUT I totally agree with Jack that sometimes a song IS more than just crazy guitar riffs & music (it's true, Jay, & I'm not sorry for saying it ), the lyrics & message of the song can be just as powerful as great music...take a song like "American Pie," which is catchy, but (I'm guessing) doesn't have the most complicated music in the world...that song totally kicks butt because it's a brilliantly crafted tour through America's musical history, same with "We Didn't Start the Fire" or even on a more modern scale - Damien Rice. His "easy listening" music may be boring to some, but the emotion & meaning behind his lyrics make fans connect with him. Listen to "Delicate" & get back to me. But then again, it's all relative to what you look for in a song

i agree stand up was so bad, but the next one the new songs tha thave been heared live are awsome its gonna be good. Let's hope so. "I'll Back You Up" (another example of "boring" music with incredible meaning/emotion behind the lyrics) is one of my all time favorite songs. Ever.

Maybe the song would've been okay if it was only three minutes....and had had a snazzy intro...but no, I didn't like it, sorry jack. 'Twas boring...

I'm about the same age as Jack, but I was never really into Jackson Browne. I like his politics, but his music wasn't my thing. I'm more an "alternative" music type of person. So many people my age are getting into country music, but I'm going more in the direction of jazz. I always have to do my own thing, I guess.

Running on empty was a great album. I was in the audience when one of the songs on it was recorded. I think it was at the UA Amphitheater in 1977, i'd have to check the liner notes to be sure which one, but Jackson said it was going to be used on that album and I believe it! One of his best on any album is "Sleeps dark and silent gate", gives me chills.

I loved the Buckley song! When Jay said it was a cover of a Smiths song, that helped it in my case. I had never heard any of Buckley's songs. He was good!
As for Queens of the Stone Age, which Jay reviewed, they are not really my thing but I will give them some credit for not sounding like the bands you tend to hear today. If anyone has listened to Flight 26 on XM Satellite Radio, you will know what I mean. They tend to play that station at the place I work at--Viejas Casino (Jay & Jack would know about Viejas). Most of the employees hate Flight 26, but they keep it on. Arrrggghhh! All the songs sound the same!
