Gremlins couldn't be on the list, because if it was a Spielberg production, Joe Dante directed it. And although several people mention "Duel", it shouldn't be on the list, as it was a TV movie.
It probably SHOULD have been a competition of Spielberg's summer blockbuster films:
Jaws Close Encounters... Raiders of the Lost Ark E.T. Jurassic Park
We can skip the sequels, such as:
Jurassic Park II: The Lost World (he didn't direct the 3rd installment) Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade
His more serious fare, really should not be against those films, like:
The Color Purple Schindler's List Saving Private Ryan Munich
We can overlook the films that most people think, well, kinda stink, like:
1941 Hook Always (treacly and bad - an example of everything Spielberg haters point to) Amistad (he meant well, really he did...but still a bad film) The Terminal (even with Hanks & Spielberg - absolutely dreadful)
And the sci-fi flicks he did in recent years, which were mixed at best, like:
A.I. Minority Report War of the Worlds
Then there's the films that most people forget altogether, like:
Sugarland Express (worth tracking down - good little flick) Empire of the Sun (notable mostly for a pre-teen Christian Bale) Catch Me If You Can (actually a pretty darned good movie)
Those first five...really, THAT should have been the contest!

For the record... It is close encounters of THE third kind. They had to do with the three different ways we had encountered alien life. One, we heard them. Two, we saw them. Three, we touched them.
Ever the stickler, Big Sexy

Heck, I hadn't even noticed that they had listed it that way. As a fan of attention to detail, I exalt thee!

I love film. Period. I have only seen a few movies I truly hated and none of them are Spielberg's. I like/love every Spielberg movie I have ever seen which is all but Duel. Although I did see some of it.
I loved Empire of the Sun. I cried the first time I saw it.

When will they record this episode? How long will the polls be open? It seems like it's been a while since the last ramblecast.
