Not sure how many of you know about this, but Jeff Gertsman from Gamespot was fired recently, after 11 years of reviewing.
To make a long story short, speculation is that it was because he reviewed the game "Kane and Lynch" negatively. Eidos (the publisher) had a major advertising deal with Gamespot for Kane and Lynch. Ads were all over the site, you could skin the site with themes, and other such stuff. When the game came out, Jeff gave it his honest opinion - a 6.0
So eventually, rumors start flying that Jeff was fired, especially after a Penny Arcade comic came out supporting them. And then the rumors were proven to be true. In addition, the Kane and Lynch ads were removed.
Nobody knows if this is true, but they think that Eidos was angry with the review (since they had the major ad deal) and pulled the ads, then Jeff was fired for his review. Of course, Gamespot denies this, but the timing is too coincidental.
In the aftermath, the user review on Kane and Lynch is very close to a 1.0, and many people are pulling their subscriptions to Gamespot. Almost everyone at Gamespot has posted something on their blog relating to the incident, Gamespot issued a document "FAQ" about what was going on (of course, denying they fired him for the review) and users are downrating the game.
Gamespot's response:

The part about "faulty equipment" in the video review made me laugh
So...a lot has been happening lately...
...I don't plan on getting the game anyway
