i hate my english teacher. she assigns us these bleak topics for essays, which are all basically the same thing. in addition to this, she hates video games. i had to write an essay, so i pulled together this d-worthy essay about why nintendo is the superior gaming console, just to annoy her. i thought you guys might want to read it. don't criticize, it, because i know it's not that good, and some of the info might be wrong, but it's kinda funny that i am actually submitting this as an essay. enjoy...
Nintendo
Nintendo is a multinational corporation founded on September 23, 1889 in Kyoto, Japan by Fusajiro Yamauchi to produce handmade hanafuda cards. In the mid-twentieth century, the company tried several small businesses. Over the years, it became a video game company, growing into one of the most powerful in the industry. Nintendo released their first home gaming console, the Nintendo entertainment system (NES) in 1983. NES is the most successful, groundbreaking, and innovative gaming console of its time in Asia and North America. Nintendo claims to have sold over 60 million NES units worldwide, and their other consoles and games have remained both popular and innovative. They are the longest-lived video game console producer ever.
Nintendo’s competitors, Microsoft (xbox) and Sony (playstation) have slightly higher sales, but they have never been able to compare to nintendo’s wonderful, imaginative games. Nintendo has created the frist handheld gaming system, the first, and only, gaming system to use state of the art motion sensing and pointing technology, and a touch screen handheld system. In addition, they have always maintained cost efficiency (not a single console above the price of $250)
As voted by ign.com members, six of the top 10 games ever made were on a Nintendo console, three of which were published by Nintendo. The number one game, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, was also published my Nintendo.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind many beloved Nintendo characters, such as Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Fox McCloud, and many others, was the man who put Nintendo on the map. Without him, Nintendo would certainly not be where it is now. He has invented some of the most popular game genres and features, such as the platformer, (a Mario style game in which you jump from platforms) and the “save” feature. (an important feature to a video game, in which you can save your progress, and come back to finish the game later, as opposed to the former method of game playing, in which you would compete for the high score, rather than competing to beat the game)
The Latest and greatest Nintendo home console, the nintendo wii, uses motion sensing technology to make gaming “3-D” by using its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. Another innovation is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode. It was originally conceived in 2001, but it was not released until November 19th, 2006. The original name was the Nintendo Revolution, but it was changed to Wii; A name change which has been subjected to much fan criticism. Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has explained why. “Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. “Wii” can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.” As you can infer from this statement, the wii was designed to appeal to all ages, young and old. It’s innovative and easy controls allow even the most technologically challenged person to pick up, play, and become immersed within one if it’s many excellent games. The wii has brought families and friends together, to pick up a wii remote, and play together.
Nintendo is the best video game company ever, because it’s games and consoles are wonderful, innovative and imaginative. It has showed the test of time, and even in some of its rough spots, it has remained the superior video game company for over 30 years.
