Well depends on how much your saving, i would save about 200, then you can get a guitar and nessecities.
Cant go wrong with a Fender or Epiphone, The Fender acoustice arent that expensive.

Since there was only a few effects pedals at the time of the First Zeppelin album, He was more than likely using a Fuzz pedal for that type of sound. Using his Fender Telecaster in the bridge position running through a marshall stack.

Me just being me, I would get a good one from the get go. That way you'll never have to buy another one unless you go professional. So get an Ovation or a Martin. They're a little pricey but totally worth it! I personally would never spend less than 500 for a guitar.

See the backs of Ovations allways bug me, and Martins take a while to break in beore they reach their true potential as awesome guitars, but I'd say Taylor or Martin. Taylor for being the best transition for Electric guitarist because they play really smooth

Personally, my favorite guitar I own is my dad's old 70 Epiphone, now that's a guitar that is broken in, its sound is full and still looks good. But, yeah, I understand about the back of Ovations. I've gotten used to mine though and for a light weight guitar that you can carry around and not worry about denting it up too badly, it's your choice. You're also right about Martin's, but like I said and what you said, after they're broken in, you can't beat that sound. So, "FC" just go to a store, an independent one, if you can find one, Guitar Center is a rip off!!! Remember that! Pick out a few Taylors, Ovations and Martins within a price range you like. Test them out, ask about it. Buy the guitar that best suits you, because you're gonna have it for a long time. Then get a tuner, a capo, some picks, a chord book and some Elixir light stings. The Elixir light strings sound good, but most importantly, they have a soft coat around them that help your fingers not blister like they do when you are learning.

My very first guitar was a Squier strat. I got it for $100 on cragislist (good site if you can find truthful people) and it lasted me for a few years. You can get it cheap new too, and it's a great beginner's guitar, while you're still figuring out exactly what you want to play.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Few more questions. What is a capo? A capo is a clamp that goes across the neck of a guitar to get different tones. That way you don't have to use alternate tunings. For example, George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" is capoed on the 2nd fret and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" is capoed on the 3rd fret. Now, you can play these songs without a capo, but to use one makes things easier and the sound is better. I know you won't need one until you learn the basic chords in standard tuning, but it's just easier to get one at first, they're only 20 dollars.

You should get a slide too, man! Slide guitar in open tunings is teh PWNZ!
Hey guys... My guitar cord just suddenly stopped working. Is there a reason it would just, like, break? It was cheap, and I've had it for a while, so I guess it just died... Bummer.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Few more questions. What is a capo? Also Jay do you know any good stores here in San Diego to go for a good guitar? There is a couple on Main Street in El Cajon. First Valley Music, I havent been there in forever but they have some ok deals, but my old guitar teacher teaches there Hub Thompson, so if you want to learn the way i did, hit him up and tell him i sent you. The second one Muzik Muzik, a small hole in the wall. The guy who used to own it sold it so I dont know whats there now, but he had good deals before . But I can usually get a great deal at Guitar Center you just need to haggle with them, like anything. I've never had any problems before, so definitly check out their store too In my travels a guitar around 400 bucks is usually pretty d**n good, unless your getting like a Gibson guitar that they striped down to nothing just to sell you the gibson name. I love Korean made guitars cheap, and they play and sound great

Cheap ones, if your lucky can last a year, i've seen monster cables last a loooongg time
