A few years ago I went to my first Comic Con and my friend gave me great advice. A few people from the boards have had similar questions so I thought I would post some (hopefully) helpful info.
What to bring:
First and foremost, bring your most comfortable shoes. You will be walking and standing a lot. Along the same vein, T-shirts are the norm. There are a number of people who will be in costume and if you feel like it, by all means, bring one. But the most people will be in T-shirts and jeans or shorts. Comfort is key. The days are going to be long so keep that in mind when planning wardrobe.
Bring a backpack. They come in handy for your program guides (you will get one when you check in at registration), pens, cameras, snacks, and freebies that you will receive.
Pens and/or highlighters also come in handy. There will be many panels to see and some will overlap or be back to back. It helps you keep track if you highlight the things you are interested in.
Transportation:
Many of you will be flying in and some will be driving. If you drive or rent a car, you will probably have parking fees. There are a few lots with free parking, but mainly there will be charges. It usually runs from $3-15. There is also a trolley that runs near most of the hotels in the area and stops at the convention center. Go here for more info:

Food:
At the convention center there is your usual convention food: pizza, nachos, sandwiches, pretzels, sodas for typical overpriced charges. My friends and I usually get a big breakfast and take some snacks with us for the day. Then at night we will go get a decent dinner in the area or near our hotel. There are lots of places to eat in the area, including a food court at a nearby outdoor mall. During the day bring easy to carry snacks like nuts or crackers and make sure to bring and drink water throughout the day.
Going with a friend or group of friends:
There is so much to see and do; something for everyone's tastes. My friend told me my first year that he would be attending panels that I might not want to attend. That was fine because there were ones that I wanted to see that he did not. So, if there is something you want to see and your companions don't, go by yourself. You will enjoy it and you may even make some new friends. If your companions are seeing something you are not interested in, see another panel or go down to the exhibition hall and get some freebies.
I think there are a number of folks from this board attending, so you may even want to plan to meet up and various times and there maybe someone from here that wants to attend something you want to attend. That also works for those attending on their own. I know I am rambling, but the point that I am trying to make is that you are going to have fun no matter who attends what panel or event with you. Make your own plans and if others have the same plans, then great, if not you'll have stories to share with them later.
J&J's Panel:
I expect to see ALL of you there!
I hope this has been helpful. If I wasn't clear or if you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me or ask here. There are several of you who have already attended CC before, so if you can think of any other items that I have not covered or if you have any corrections to make, please do so. I know it's a bit convoluted and I tend to ramble on a few points, but I just want everyone to have a wonderful time and I will do my best to make sure that happens.
I look forward to seeing you all.
