What would be the top ten things you would do? It can be all complete nonsense if you want ("free ice cream for everyone" day) or serious issues. Just post what you would like to do and NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. If you disagree with someone bring it up with them through a PM or something, this thread is just for the topic.
Mine (Not in order):
1. Less taxes for the poor, Higher taxes for rich and corporations 2. Getting rid of censorship 3. Allow federal funding for stem-cell research 4. Allow same-sex marriages, or get rid of marriages and everyone has civil unions 5. Increased separation between church and state 6. A TON of Increased funding for reduction of greenhouse gasses, etc. 7. Increased funding for peacekeeping efforts 8. Make becoming a citizen easier, as the United States is a nation built by immigrants (but not too easy - easy enough to decrease the number of illegal citizens) 9. Outlaw guns for all except law enforcement and military 10. Legalize marijuana
(This is kinda a poll, but if this is in the wrong section, Mods feel free to move it.)

I'm Canadian, but if in charge of the states, I would:
1. Ban the mullet! Lots of canucks have them too, but we're america junior, and would soon follow. 2. Have much stricter gun laws. 3. Spend much less on the miliatary, and more towards closing the gap between the super rich and the super poor. 4. Legalize gay marriage. We have it here, and the world hasn't blown up yet. Marriage is a personal choice, be you gay or straight or whatever in between, so if it's something you want to do, why should you be stopped? 5. Make the cast of LOST honourary members of congress. 6. Ban fanny packs. 7. Give funding for farmers, and try to encourage the buying and selling of local produce. 8. Declare my allegiance to Oprah- she's the one with the REAL power, and I need powerful friends. 9. Lower the drinking age. TWENTY-ONE?! How do you survive?! 10. Create a more vibrant arts and music program in public schools.
Uh... and open some Tim Hortons in all major cities. Americans deserve to have crack-laced coffee too.

i agree with all of you. (except emily on abortion and gay marriage.) my list would look a lot like steves, as we have similar political views, i just copied his, and edited it a bit. the few things cut out are not things i disagree on, but more things that will be on my list if it went up to 15.
1. Less taxes for the poor, Higher taxes for rich and corporations 2. Getting rid of censorship 3. Allow federal funding for stem-cell research, increase awareness and availability of safe sex, abortion, birth control, etc. 4. Allow same-sex marriages, or get rid of marriages and everyone has civil unions 5. Increased separation between church and state 6. Increased funding for education, while heavily reducing military funds to a military purely defensive (like japan) 7. Help poor communities clean up, get rid of drugs like meth, crack, heroin, etc. 8. Make becoming a citizen easier, as the United States is a nation built by immigrants (but not too easy - easy enough to decrease the number of illegal citizens) 9. Outlaw guns for all except law enforcement and military 10. Decriminalize drugs, prostitution, gambling, and other victim-less crimes, like in Amsterdam. Increase rehabilitation for drug addicts, decrease incarceration.
lemme explain my reasoning for the contradiction of 10 and 7. i do not do drugs of any kind, however, i do believe that there is a world of difference between doing drugs that grow naturally (marijuana) and drugs that are made in some guys basement, using chemicals and stuff. but rather than making the drugs illegal, it seems more logical to help people kick their drug habit than throwing them in jail. look at the prohibition. all that did was create organized crime. the legalization of drugs will not end, but highly lower drug related crimes.
