I just bought the dvd transformers, mainly because some of my friends say the start is based in Qatar, and i live in Qatar. And it was ridiculous, there were mountains in the backround, Qatar is a flat desert country, annnnd there was a little arab boy in rags helping the Americans, i know many local Qatari people, and i don't think that they go around in rags, since they are one of the richest families in the world, i go to school with some, and they drive to school in lamborghinis and ferraris. The little arab boy leads them to a crappy little village where they have no phone......the capital city of Qatar, Doha, is filled with skyscrapers and 5 * hotels, this is another example that Americans know absolutely about the arab world. How much research would that have taken for a huge blockbuster like Transformers, 10 minutes?, no no let's just assume its like some nutsty little stereotypical iraqi village. makes me sick

This is Transformers we are talking about here. The movie that destroyed my childhood while laughing all the way to the bank with my money.
Hollywood ****s everything up. After a while, you get used to it.

What stupid is I bet they could've had it set somewhere unspecific, and kept everything else the same, and it would've been more accurate. I won't pretend like I know much about the Middle East... I don't, mainly because war depresses me so much that I often actively avoid information (bad me, I know)... but if they never specified place it would've just been Anytown, Arabplace and nothing specific to nitpick except the blatant stereotypes.
I thought it was odd the Middle East was mentioned at all, or at least mentioned in the frame that it was. Who needs hot topic, real life, political issues in the middle of summer blockbusters with exploding robots? I went to see it for the exploding robots...

Hey, they did the same thing in War Games. I've visited the town of Grand Junction, Colorado a few times. When the main character gets to "Grand Junction" it looks nothing like it really does. It's flat, desert land. There a just a few trees. The movie showed it with large mountains and a lot of trees. Hollywood doesn't seem to ever do research before they make their movies. (Sorry, this was the only example I could think of right at the moment.)
