OK. a lot of people like heroes, and i don't want to offend anyone, but I've probably offended all the heroes fans already. if you are a sensitive heroes fan, DO NOT READ THIS.
i know I've said that heroes rips off lost, but my real problem is that i don't care about the characters on heroes. i recently (about 5 minutes ago) watched, like, 5 episodes of heroes, but i had to turn it off. i got sick of the characters.
lost. i really like d the characters from the get-go, but my love for the characters started in walkabout. Locke was this lame, boring person, who has always been told that he can't do anything, and on the island, he's told he can't get the boar, but in the end, he does. this reminds me, and a lot of other people, of themselves at one time. it makes you feel for the character, when you see the big reveal that he was crippled, you feel inspired, and moved.
the melodrama on heroes doesn't quite do it for me. you have been waiting to find out who Claire's (heroes, not lost)parents were, but when you find out, you go "wow" but you don't go "wow. i really feel for that character," or "wow. i can really relate to something about this character."
i know there are a lot of people that watch TV, read books, and watch movies for pure entertainment, but what really entertains me is a character that i can relate to, in some shape or form. some people may say "but Malcolm, how can you relate to a hero?" two words. peter parker. the average comic book nerd feels for that character, because they are just like them. you can identify with a super hero, if they are a good character, but i don't really like the characters on heroes.
you can relate to a character that has few in common to you. i am not a doctor, like jack, but i can relate to him in that he was told that he "doesn't have what it takes to be a leader." weather or not i "have what it takes," jack has something in common with me, which makes him more than just a TV character.
I'm not saying i could come up with better characters, but if all you are gonna do in a dramatic show is make characters that amaze you, and none that bring forth a tear, you are wasting your time. that is why lost is the only drama show i watch on TV. (the only other TV shows are south park and Sarah Silverman) i identify with the characters.
heroes, in my opinion is a bad show, but it doesn't mean it is. i don't mind watching an episode every once in a while, but if i don't care about the characters, i don't care about the show.
I'm sure i have angered every heroes fan that has red this, and for that, i say "i warned you."
