I went and saw Casino Royale. Amidst the flaming, I have an announcement to make: I HATED PEIRCE BROSNAN AS BOND! Now that we have that out of the way, let's get on with the review, shall we? Story: Bond's first mission takes him to a high-stakes poker game against Le Chiffre, a businessman who directly funds terrorism. On the line: 150 million dollars that could go to Le Chiffre's cause. MI6 cannot have that. So they send the new kid in: Bond, James Bond. After just receiving his 00 status, Bond goes to win this game, but the stakes get even higher when he begins to fall for a beautiful woman. As he is told time and time again, he cannot get emotionally involved. But, of course, he does, and it all ends in a bitter finale that changes Bond into the Bond we all know and love. I was involved most of the time, but it felt a little stretched out. Cut out 15-20 minutes of fat, and it could have been great. Grade: B+ Soundtrack: Have you seen a Bond movie? Good, then you know what to expect. Grade: B Acting: Daniel Craig is phenomenal as a ruthless, coldhearted (for the most part) Bond. He is second only to Sean Connery, and I sincerely hope they keep him. The other actors do quite well as well. Grade: A+ Final Thought: Very well done. Lives up to the hype. And to all you Daniel Craig hata's: Shut up, see the movie, and be amazed. Oh, and I HATE PIERCE BROSNAN AS BOND! What was that? I already said that? Well, does it look like I give a d**n? (To anyone who has seen the movie, you know what I mean ) Final Grade: B+

I can't really put my full judgement on the line because the theater I saw it at had terrible sound quailty and some part were hard to follow due to this. I have to say though, the first action scene (the chase through the construction site) was worth the price of admission. I did like it better than the last few (Brosnan) Bond movies.

As a girl, it took me awhile to figure out why the chair was such a big deal. THEN I realized why all the men in the audience were getting sick in their popcorn bags.
LOVED the movie. Best Bond yet.

I thought Brosnan was OK, but as Gene Siskel noted, he just didn't have the physical presence. Getting punched by Brosnan's Bond looked like getting a piece of paper thrown at you. Craig is much more solid.
But the guy who deserves the most credit is Paul Haggis, who ditched the jokes and lame dialogue for a really strong script much in line with the original novels.
