Yea, according to the comic books the alien symbiote fused with Spider-Man first, then left him and went into Eddie Brock, who was Peter's rival. The alien symbiote came to earth via Jameson's son who was an astronaut studying rocks. It sneaked onto the ship, and came to earth.
By the way, he does look awesomedicious in it! Too bad he loses the look later on.

back to Spider-Man 3, Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways) is playing Sandman. Will find out who plays venom.
Topher Grace (That 70's Show) is playing venom, and yes, carnage is making an appearance. Nerds all over the world unite!
