OK. this is my question. a little while ago, i created a thread about how i was smote over and over again. i made it, not for karma, but to know who did it, and why. to quote jack, "i just want to know the name" of the person that smote me. i got a ton of friendly exalts, but also a lot of angry messages about how i am ruining the system of karma, and that karma holds no meaning anymore. what i didn't understand was:
why do you karma-haters read, and even post on the karma sub board?
leave those who like to give, and receive free karma alone, and don't complain about how we have ruined the system by trying to give others a friendly hello. we get it. you hate karma. stop posting here.

its not so much the karma and i myself am not a karma hater but most people dislike others on this board like this dude a while back just smited me whenever he got a chance and i asked him why he said because he didn't like what i posted or said so after a long while the remote viewers kicked him out of the forum permanently and then he comes back under another new name and asks me of all people why he got kicked out and i told him and never spoke again he's not around anymore but it's not so much they want to get your karma down but they dislike people or how they post and that's their problem because you can't change a person even if u ask them to stop smiting you

why do you karma-haters read, and even post on the karma sub board? I've been wondering the same thing.

We're not karma haters, but sometmies your complaints drift into other sections, and it bothers me. Especially since many people can't seem to understand that not everyone will like everyone, and karma doesn't really matter. There are a lot of people who have high karma that don't deserve it, and some that have low karma that deserve more. I'm just voicing my opinion on the matter and I hope other people open up their eyes and realize that it means nothing.

in no intentions to offend, but if it means nothing, why do you post in this section? i understand why a lot of people think it's meaningless, but then, why don't you disregard the "all that is karma" sub board?

" All That Is Karma" Positive, and negative. Touche! Now thats the type of thing you get an exalt for +26. I don't obsess over karma, but I do notice my own. If mine goes down, that usually means I said something someone didn't like, but I don't care, I'm not posting to please everyone. And it is impossible to have everyone like you. I just don't like it when people complain about their karma going down, just deal with it.

Agreed. Everyone has a right to speak their mind about any topic on the boards as long as they do so with respect. And so far, it looks like everyone has. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is with karma. Yeah, it's nice to give and receive exalts. But the whole point of karma is to show that you liked or didn't like what someone said. It can be good or bad. And truthfully when members start to complain about being smote, that's when my finger starts itching to use the smite button. And that's my right to do so if I please. Bottom line? Don't worry too much about it. People that have been here much longer than me have much lower karmas. And I don't respect them any less for it.

Yeah i totally agree DoD. Exaltin is like: I like what you said/did or i want to help you in any way. Just a sign of sympathy.
What I wanted to ask - everyone is asking who smited them if they get smited; why does noone asks who exalted them if being exalted anonymously.
I just always wonderd why there are new users and one of their first posts is a begging for more karma. That's jsut weird but doesn't bother me.

Now what about karma attacks? Shouldn't they be noticed?

i'm the kind of person that when someone is mad at me, i want to know why, so i can stop doing it.
I WAS NOT BEGGING FOR KARMA!!!
I understand why you don't like it when people beg for karma, and why you think it means nothing, but why do you keep repeating this, like a broken record?

Totally agree with all of that... what basically annoyes me is that, when I first came to the board, I thought the karma system was a great idea. I am by no means a karma hater, I still frequently exalt people who I think deserve it (and the same goes with smiting) but I am starting to feel that it means near to nothing anymore because people can be exalted by complaining about there low (or loss of) karma, or by posting above someone else... The reason we keep repeating these things, is that we either remember when karma was used for the purpose it was made, or can recognise that it had potential to be a great system but is simply being used carelessly, and people who deserve higher recognission for valuble/humorous contributions or good theories are being ovelooked.

What I am saying now will never persuade anyone to change their opinions on karma, just as nothing you say persuades us to stop giving free karma. my question is not "why do you dislike the karma system?", but "if you dislike the system, why do you still participate by reading and posting in the section?"
I know that the sub board is called "all that is karma," and you are entitled to your opinion, but nobody wants to hear you complaining about us giving away karma, and it isn't making anyone stop. I know a lot of people, including me, that take karma too seriously, but just let us have our fun, and leave us alone.
I feel like I'm back in fourth grade, getting bullied by people that could just as easily ignore me. admit it. almost all of you guys have been bullied by someone in their life. be it an older sibling, a kid at school, or a mean boss, among others, you know what it feels like, so stop it.

We're all here "complaining" because we want to share our opinion. Two very different things, but I digress.
Again, I like karma. What I dislike is when people don't like another's opinion for whatever reason, just because it's not what they think themselves.
This is why I smote malcolmthrock and exalted Steve. I disagree with one, agree with another.
I sincerely hope that those of you who are "karma lovers" will continue to enjoy exalting people as you please and not try to question other's motives in the karma area. We can use karma however we like, withouth having to give reasons why.
