This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say smiting has lost its edge. Someone is smitten and they immediately think "SOMEONE SMOTE ME THEY MUST BE EVIL HOW DARE THEY" rather than thinking "Maybe I did something to offend people". Especially if youre smote 50 times in a day, I think that should be a signal that it's not some weirdo just thinkin "hey, i feel like being mean". Until people start taking both negative and positive karma seriously, it's totally useless so I dont know why anyone cares when all you have to say is "Someone smote me" and you get exalted 30 times. If someone hits smite, its probably because you do something to offend them, and you should think about that.

Since smiting is so rare, when someone is smote they really do need to think about their posting habbits, and review the standards we have. In turn, when someone is exalted, they should feel pride about the way they've acted, and be encouraged. This is not the case, when someone is exalted they think "I mustve exalted them" or "I mustve posted at the top of the page" rather than "I mustve made a good point".

getting smote that many times a day is way too much. 1 or 2 smites is enough. if you hated what the person said that much, why dont you tell them?

shinra you just said what I was thinking, the karma is so out of control no one understands the purpose of it anymore, obviously if someone is smoted upon so much they are acting a certain way or have done something that people dont like, its impossible for 1 person to smite someone 50 times in one day so hjs must have been causing waves in the forum among multiple people, and instead responding to it properly a thread is started to bring the karma back up and thats what grinds my gears, you have to take the persons actions into account, instead of trying to figure out what the problem he caused was everyone exalts him because the smiters were "wrong" or "mean" for doing it, for someone to be smote upon 50 times in one day means the person is irritating more than one person, not just one

also if everyone just serves out karma left and right it becomes absolutley pointless because everyones karma level will be ridiculously high. thats why you should use discretion among your exalts (or smites)

Its not like there is an organization where everyone says "Oh, lets go smite ____ because we can." That is what is mean. Obviously, there were many people who did not like what HJS was doing. I know that for a fact too, because I smote him twice after he insulted Shinra 2 times (one for each insult) and a few minutes later his karma was down even lower. And now I discover that by whining about the "mean" smitters whos actions were unjust, he gets all his karma back - and possibly even more.

I had a valid reason for doing that. He insulted one of the great people on these forums. Many others noticed this too. Smiting is something I never like doing unless I have to, and that time I had to. So next time, observe what you are about to post...

this is a great point as to how the karma is being abused, the fact that hjs's karma was depleted it jumped up to 32 in a matter of days without even questioning why it was attacked so harshly, so in a few days its up higher then my karma has ever been, no one sees a problem here? (and no I am not asking for karma, I believe I should only get exalted for doing something good, or making a good point, and I believe most of my karma was because of reasons like that)
