i see where ur comin from, but most ppl's karma goes up once a day at least. and whenever someone says "i was smited" they get exalted 3x by default it seems. so occasional smiting really helps people's karma. which is why ya gotta hammer it in if you want people's behavior to change shinra just to let you know, I am with you on this. when something happens like to hjs's karma it means theres something about the persons behavior that isnt mulling over well with others on the forum, infact thats what the smite button is there for, its alright to bring it back up but only if the person has changed their ways, I wouldnt have a problem with this thread if there was a screening process to check out how someone has been posting to see if they deserve to have their karma attacked in the opposite fashion of it being smote upon.

Exactly Casey. If the agency just brings their karma back to the original level just because the person whined enough and didn't change, thats no good. The smite button is there for a reason, and for whatever reason HJS really ticked someone off. I don't want to start any flame wars or get people named again, but I will say it appears the smiter has stopped.
I forgot how your motto goes, but it basically implies that you are a safe haven for those who flame and spam and get smitted. They would join just to have your guys keep their karma high
Just consider what I and others have been saying...

yeah i agree with you guys. so we can change the purpose of the agency to exalting people who have changed their ways and dont deserve negative karma anymore.

honestly I really dont like the way karma is just being handed out so easily, it was probably a week or so after I joined this forum when I got my first karma point and it was for making a good point in one of the countless conversations that occur on this forum, and for the like 2 months I was onky at 5 or so, and I have never once asked for karma or complained or anything like that because it doesnt really mean anything, and the only person who I wrecklessly exalted was jay because t was part of the race I rarely exalt someone because of a single sentence post that was a little bit humorous or because they are new to the boards.
basiclly I am annoyed at how the karma is being used, it wasnt like this when I joined and I just thought I would say something about it.

basiclly I am annoyed at how the karma is being used, it wasnt like this when I joined and I just thought I would say something about it. Well, *obviously* I follow another karma policy. I like to please and judging from the reactions I receive some board members are just as glad to be exalted as I am.
For me giving and receiving karma it's not so much a sign of a great accomplishment - even though that is oftentimes a reason for an exalt - but a sign of affection. Since there is no official handbook we are both entitled to our views and live hopefully next to each other happily ever after.

You both have good points. I believe karma is being given out too easily. I think a comprimise is very possible.
I went the first about 6 months I joined with less than 5 karma. I had 0 for my first 500 posts. I think the highest was jay, then 2nd was like ralph with a whooping 13 or somethin like that. I miss those days, but theyre through and we have to realise it.
On the other hand, it's nice to be exalted. But it should be for something of merit. We dont need to go back to only when someone comes up with a brilliant theory or posts a unique spoiler. But simply being around or exalting someone else is rather silly.
I think that we (everyone on the boards) need to create a list of reasons someone should be exalted, and a list of reasons someone should be smitten. It would clear things up and really solve a lot of this confusion, and aliviate the need for such contriversial subjects.
I realize no one will be fully happy with the list, so we need to have a delegation. I say bring in people strong on both sides. Casper has shown that she wants to spread the love <3, while Casey has some great points on reducing the inflation of karma. So they should both be on the board, as well as the remote viewers.
Any1 else for or against a stickied list of exaltable and smitable acts?

I totally agree with Shinra- I think that exalting has become "the thing to do, now" ever since the Karma race has stopped. It is like the Pavlov's Dog theory- we have been conditioned to click the [ Exalt | Smite ] when it is available again. (and I am no exeption) (I hope that made sense!)
So I think a recommended list for Exalting and Smiting would be good.

yeah, but who wants to make a list of people to smite?
By the way, who smited me? *goes in her corner*

I wasn't saying to make a list of "people" but to rather make a list of "reasons" to exalt or smite.
Sorry that was confusing...

On the other hand, it's nice to be exalted. But it should be for something of merit. We dont need to go back to only when someone comes up with a brilliant theory or posts a unique spoiler. But simply being around or exalting someone else is rather silly. That is why I always give a (more or less serious) reason for each exalt. In my eyes they aren't that random. Except for Jack's.
I'd prefer exalting / smiting not to be regulated.
