Umm.. ok apologies - looked into it - it is legit. I pulled the same image from my own copy of the copenhagen.jpg which predated most of the forum postings (ie I pulled it off the web within a day or two of it popping up, so no one went in and added it in later). Basically an image and a text file are encoded inside the larger image using steganography - a way to hide files within images. Here is a link to the program. Wow that's sweet! So it is real! I really wasn't exspecting that!
Here's what I've deduced.
Calvin=Desmond's partner?
Blessed is the fruit of her womb= It's couldn't be Aaron they're talking about, could it?
Zanzibar= Possible island location? Or previous abandonned research site?
Our religious friend (Mr. Eko?) has been fed K's (at first I though Kelvin, but that would mean the previously mention Calvin wouldn't be Desmond's partner) carrot joke (snowmen anyone?). May his staff comfort him in the valley of the shadow of death (reference to the 23rd psalm).
Humbaba= The Bull of Heaven that Gilgamesh and Enkidu kill, leading to Enkidu falling ill and eventually dying.
AH= Alvar Hanso?

I love being right. >___> I was going to point out that there was more than one person pointing out that it wasn't BS in the link that I posted, but I guess it makes sense that you needed to see it for yourself to believe it. As for all this other technical stuff with the morse code and whatnot, I'll just sit back and watch since this isn't even close to my field of expertise.  |

My only problem with this photo, and it's easy to say this now, since I've not contributed to this thread before, was that I thought it was pretty obvious that it was a fake, and not done by ABC.
The reason is a simple one. It was just too clear. What I mean by this is it always looked to me to be high-res, which is basically something ABC wouldn't do (without some type of watermarking). That plus I'm a cynic at heart and there were just too many coincidences and clues there to be legit.
That said, it's a pretty nice job.

What? Are you saying that photo was not from ABC/Disney? How did he get it onto the Hanso site? That must be why it came and went so quickly. Dang. Sure was a fun one, though.

It probably never was on the Hanso site if it was a fake. The person that originally posted it probably threw in the "it was only up for a few hours" part to explain why no one could find it on there.
Meh. Why can't the writers come in and debunk something like this when you've got HUNDREDS of pages discussing it's authenticity. That's not fun speculation; that's just plain mean.

The person who originally "found" the image actually carefully crafted the whole thing with lots of planning. His name on the forum is Hodag. He then had strategic dummy accounts on a couple boards to help nudge it along when needed. Hodag is the one who finally came out and put out a very detailed announcement that it was all a fake, once he felt that key people had figured out all the secrets and were realizing it was fake.

PS I was skeptical that it was legit, but it was so well done I felt it was worth spending time looking into it in detail. I have to admit the main reason I thought it was fake is that it was so detailed and seemed to confirm so many theories, in too much detail. But when I found that there was a hidden image, then I thought that "ah, this is why it was so high a resolution of an image, they were hiding something inside it" - I have to admit even if fake it was a nice distraction during hte Hiatus and I agree with Hodag that ABC should be doing this kind of thing...
