I'm not sure that they are actually *the valenzetti equation* - here is what I'm thinking. The equation requires some sort of inputs into it, probably tied to each of the DHARMA research initiatives perhaps, once input into the equation, the equation would spit out either:
1. the numbers that would then be interpreted into a date.
2. the date and some other information, including the numbers somehow???
not sure...
The other option I mentioned before is that the numbers are what gets put into the equation and then that produces a date. So perhaps the numbers are the result of some sort of measurement of a universal constant of some sort, again tied into the areas that DHARMA was researching and hoping to somehow change. They would poke at one of the areas and then measure the "constant" - they would get the numbers back as a measure and then input them into the equation for a final date? Something like that - not sure...

Maybe the numbers are a code and they literally stand for a letter/s or a word/s?
Or maybe the Dharma Initiative got trapped there, so they sent the numbers out on a broadcast and hoped someone from THF or just anyone could help get them off the island.
