When Jack made the "underwater hatch" crackpot theory did he specifically it would be in the ocean. If not, I'd say option 2 definitely works.

All it has to be is underwater. It doesn't matter if its under a lake, or under a monster baby who has dippies on, or if its under Jack's river of tears, or if its under charlie water lol.

I think the prediction/theory was that the cable running out to the ocean was to the underwater hatch. I also think that Jack tied it into the shark with the marking as well which I think is accurate based on what we know now...

I'm gonna say the "underwater" part of the Hydra station is still on the island, but probably in an artificial sea inlet dug for the purposes of building an aquarium. The Cable Sayid found is probably to pick up the Red Sox game.
