I just watched this clip of a deleted scene with Claire & the Pilot from season 1. Not sure if this is already out there. But the Pilot says one name that could be his connection to the Losties. I got this via darkufo.blogspot.com

I believe Bernard is a dentist, but I could be wrong. Too lazy to look it up at the moment.

Yeah he is, but I believe that isn't mentioned until we see him in the second season. They probably just changed his past story, just like they did with the cut scene where Rose talks about her kids. They changed their back story somewhat. I doubt the name Bernard was used twice on the show without it being meant to be connected, or at least make us think it was.
