Lost and "avoiding spoilers"

I really wonder how this show can keep itself so spoiler free for so long. I mean with so much info out there to begin with, sometimes you'll hear something without even trying to...
It took me over a year to become a LOST fan. Over that time, I'd "heard" that a cast member or two were killed off, I'd heard theories, I'd heard about the "monster", all before I had a chance to even sit down and watch any of it.

When I finally sat to watch the show episodes in succession on DVD , I tried figuring out who was going to get axed from the show first... Funny enough, I really thought it was going to be Sawyer!!
About a day before I got to the episode that showed the fate of the lost Lostee, I read a review about a new stage show featuring someone from LOST in it. Within the first sentence, they mentioned not only how Ian Sommerholder died, but a few other surprises I hadn't even gotten to yet! Frustrating, but still didn't kill my enjoyment of the show.

Two weeks ago, I arrived from vacation on a Wednesday night and missed the show. A friend of mine told me to avoid all TV that day before watching LOST, as they'd made the mistake of watching REGIS and KELLY talk about Ana Lucia's death before they'd actually gotten to see the show! Luckily that surprise wasn't spoiled for me.

Just THIS week, I almost got Libby's surprise spoiled when I nearly read an article about her on Thursday evening, before I'd seen the show.
So how DOES one go about without getting spoiled? Many times I just can't catch the show while it's on -- but I'm so afraid someone at the office will spoil it for me!

watch it when it's on, like everybody else... or tivo it and watch it as soon as you get home, even if it's 1 a.m. You can't expect no1 to talk about the eppisode. Also, it doesnt count as a "Spoiler" if it's already been aired ;-)

yea it is hard to call it a spoiler if the episode already aired. Idk what time but abc puts up the latest episode so you can watch it wednesday night. Does anyone know what time abc has it on their website after the episode is aired?

yeah, my bowling league is on wednesday nights, so I have to watch it from my DVR as soon as I get home

see, ya can't be spoiled if u watch it as it airs or before u listen to any other form of media

exactly...I watch it, then hit the boards and stuff...podcasts are usually the next day or so

yeah, i missed SOS and d/led it thta night off a torrent and watched it the next morning before i got on the boards. if u miss an epp it's usually up by midnight EST on myBitTorrent and torrentspy and occasionally TBK (or the official site for the next 2 epps)

I hear ya geeman, as a college student, it's often hard to catch the shows I want to watch close to when they aired. And it's not just people and the media talking about the most recent episode, it's me having to avoid the temptation of coming here! Even the Save Handsome Jack's Karma thread isn't safe!
I remember People magazine saying something about Libby and Hurley's kiss way before it aired. Of course the dating of magazines is so screwy... they probably thought it made sense to print it when they did.

haha. i do believe DVR is God's gift to mankind, and use it to its fullest advantage when at home.

haha micia, every1 who gets tivo is like "i can't live without it". I'm afraid if i get a DVR ill never stop watchin tv

see the best thing about the DVR is it records in HD...so even things on HBO that will go on HBO on Demand, I record so I get it in HD

I have no HD, no DVR, no Tivo, no HBO.. i feel deprived now :-(

DVR is just a form of Tivo, so you really don't need both. Season recordings work the same...it leaves commercials in, but I just fast forward through them, and in the case of Lost and Dharma commercials, it's a good thing I get to keep them in there.

Funny enough, though -- I was too busy to watch last week's show live, but usually I like to TIVO it and catch it about 20 minutes in so that I can still see the whole show and skip commercials and be back in bed by 10 (I have an early start).
Well, I went over to the set at about 9:18 last week only to find - to my horror- that Tivo wasn't recording the show - it was recording something else from one of my automatic playlists!!!!
Thank goodness for ABC.com. The next night, I got home from work, blocked all interference, and watched the whole thing online from my laptop. I *was* going to buy it off iTunes, but a) this was the free option and b) I hope to buy the DVD.
