It looks like charlie is in a cave in one of those pictures but you can see part of a room in the hatch in the background (at least thats what it looks like).
Maybe Locke chooses not to push the button and part of the hatch collapses, trapping eko and charlie (I tihnk there was a finale speculation like this).
