I thought they were in the gun locker... tho if HG is in there, they prolly aren't.
It's prolly a shot of charlie in the woods, or a flashback shot. I doubt Jack's dumb enough to perscribe heroine, knowing how dangerous and possibly deadly withdrawl is

I guess it depends how bad things are. He was willing to take pretty drastic measures with Boone - if Libby's suffering and he lacks all other means of treatment, I could see him going with the heroin.

The heroin is used for medicinal reasons. Eko finds some in the woods, and Jack tells Sawyer to give up his stash to help save Libby, thus revealling where his gun stash is.

I'm shocked. whoda thunk that Jack would give up on saving libby, and just want to make her comfortable? He had such a tough time accepting that he couldn't save his previous patients

There is no way he could treat someone with a wound to there intestines and such. I won't explain the process but it's not pretty and takes some serious antibiotics.
