Are we talking about the real-physical-normal Walt or the extraordinary-mysteriously-appearing Walt? (who also could possibly be physically there, flesh and bones. We just don't know yet. Maybe he's a teleporter.)

If the writers' strike is resolved, and the last half of season four is completed but not aired until later--in the fall, for example--will that still be considered "season 4" and part of the contest?

In other words, assuming there will be a gap before we see episode nine, what is your cutoff point where the contest in concerned?

I'd say that's still season 4.
It's like the hiatus with season 3. Back then Jack was jokingly calling the second part (after hiatus) season 3 (or 2 and a half? can't quite remember how he referred to it), but it eventually still was the same season (3).
But your question whether the second part would still be part of the contest is a solid question i think.
I'd say they'll wait it out till the real end of season 4.

If I could throw in my two cents. I would suggest that this 25 question contest be only for these eight episodes. If they they a hiatus and come back in August (or whatever) that we make a new set of questions: season 4 part 2 or something.

You do have a good idea here. And if I remember correctly, I believe Jack said that he was only have 25 questions (instead of 50) due to their only being 8 episodes.
It would only fair that WHEN LOST finishes off season 4, that Jack comes up with another 25 questions...

Haha, more work for you Jack, but I like that idea too. That means, like, if somebody thought Hurley would be in all the episodes, they wouldn't have to decide whether to say 8 or 16.
