Hey everyone, Just listening to the podcast and caught the discussion on the actor's facial expressions. I'm in South Jersey and I listen to a great morning show, "Preston and Steve." These guys are huge fans of Lost and do little recaps every Thursday. Anyway they had Micheal Emerson (aka Henry Gale) on their show the other day. The audio can be found at www.prestonandsteve.com/audio.php In the interview they talk to Mr Gale about how his faces are so frigging evil looking, but ask how he knows how to react with out knowing what the full story is. Mr Gale thens goes on to say that certain scenes are shot different ways and the choices are made in editing. So he could do a scene scared, evil, or clueless, and the shows creators decide which version fits best. So in essence I'm saying that, there is something behind the looks the cast members have. Its not just coincidence.

aah wanted to post the exact same thing Had heard that podcast too (and it was the only one of p&s that i heard, but I might check out some more. they sound cool, and it's especially interesting they can get actors on the line) So, yep i agree: facial expressions do mean something important. Which doesnt mean that some might be there just to throw us off.

Doing multiple takes of reactions is a great way of keeping the character's true nature secret from the cast. Although after seeing Michael Emerson in 'Saw' I was pretty convinced that he would turn out to be an evil character, well an Other at least.
