The UK paper the Independent: A man who used to be a woman before having gender reassignment surgery claims he is five months pregnant and expecting a baby girl in July.
Thomas Beatie, who is married and from the US state of Oregon, has written an article in the gay magazine Advocate, saying it feels "incredible" to be a "pregnant man". He adds: "Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am."
Born Tracy Lagondino, Mr Beatie kept his female organs when he changed genders. He turned to home insemination after what he says was discrimination from doctors. He says he is carrying a child on behalf of his wife, Nancy, because she has had a hysterectomy. The couple have been together for 10 years.
"Doctors have discriminated against us, turning us away due to their religious beliefs," Mr Beatie explained in the article.
"Healthcare professionals have refused to call me by a male pronoun or recognise Nancy as my wife. Receptionists have laughed at us. Friends and family have been unsupportive; most of Nancy's family doesn't even know I'm transgender," he added. "Sterilisation is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights," he said. "Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire but a human desire."
The couple, who manage a custom screen-printing business in the town of Bend, lived a normal life "until we decided that I would carry our child," Mr Beatie wrote. A previous insemination ended in a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy with triplets, requiring surgery, resulting in the loss of all his embryos and his right fallopian tube.
"I will be my daughter's father, and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family," Mr Beatie wrote. Advocate says it has confirmed with Mr Beatie's doctors that he is indeed pregnant. www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/married-man-claims-to-be-five-months-pregnant-801331.html ;D Cheers oLO

yes this is unconventional and a little strange, but i feel bad that doctors and people who are supposed to be PROFESSIONAL are basically ridiculing them. they should be thinking about the life of the unborn child. good luck to them and their baby.

I was talking about this with my co-worker. It was just smarter for him to carry the baby. Having a sex change can't be cheap. They have been on Oprah, some cable news channels, one of the morning shows, etc. They have all the bills paid for by having him carry the baby.
What I don't get is that if she wanted to be a man, became a man than got pregnant. Why not just stay a woman. I just don't get it.

i wrote an editorial on the pregnant bearded lady, check it out:
Recently Oprah Winfrey had a special guest on her mid-morning talk show. His name is Thomas Beatie and he is pregnant. Thomas is formerly known as Tracy Lagondino, a lesbian inclined woman who underwent transsexual surgery that altered her breasts, and who decided not to remove her reproductive organs. Beatie, 34, has been "living as a man" thanks to some testosterone therapy for the last ten years. This recent appearance on Winfrey's show and an interview with People magazine has sparked a controversy across the globe, setting the cyberspace ablaze and has Internet search engines running full blast.
While Beatie has become the latest poster child for homosexual rights, she/he has also become fodder for any organization that weighs in on either side of transgender rights. Beatie might just be the first link in a chain of transgender parents. This slippery slope is the latest in invalid arguments that the proponents of gay rights put forth. As the controversy unfolds some of tenets of such a philosophy must be looked at.
Beatie was is a Hawaiian native who once was a contestant in the Miss Teen Hawaii USA Pageant. Beatie began to live as a male shortly there after. While undergoing her breast removal she opted to keep her reproductive organs. "I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day. I didn't know. It was just a dream," stated Beatie.
Surely it is not a horrible thing that a woman wants to have a child. The horrible thing is that you have betrayed your self and your cause in more ways than can be listed. By definition Beatie is a women, her XX sexual chromosomes give it away. Even in a postmodern age where there is no real truth and "perception is reality" we must concur that he is a she despite popular opinion. Admitingly, she has a nice beard, better than one that I can grow. So does my dog, and she is a retired show dog. When did we discount the biological, in lieu of ones feelings? What would your oncologist say if you told him that it didn't feel like you had cancer? While that is an analogy stretched to its limits, it helps bring reality into focus. This is a lie in our face and shame on those who don't know it.
This is an era where gender roles are becoming redefined due to class separation and the hunger for material wealth. We live in a day and age where the mother must work, because the kids need to go to school, so that the can enter the lottery that is the job market and hope to get a good enough paying job. While gender lines have become smudged in society at large, we see that Beatie sees is differently. "It's not a male or female desire to have a child," he said. "It's a human desire. I have a very stable male identity." This is where we get picky. Although both men and women want to have a child, it is not the desire of any man that he should be pregnant. In fact any utterance made by a man in the heat of labor can be written off as "crisis intervention." While Beatie might comment that she/he is secure in a male identity, she/he has a fully working vagina. This begs the question: What have you been smoking, and is that good for the baby?
If we continue along the natural order we must examine the physiological side of the pregnancy. When we hear that a man is pregnant we automatically do a mental double take. Our first response is to rubberneck at the news article or conversation in a fashion that befits a 10-car pile-up. The obstetrician for the proud parents declares this to be a normal pregnancy. Of course it is, she is a woman. While she has been of testosterone for over 2 years, it is still remarkable that the therapy did not ravage her reproductive system. That is the true miracle here. Women athletes have polluted their bodies with performance enhancing treatments only to find themselves sterile. The headlines of the story would better portray the reality of the story if it read "Bearded lady is with child."
What about the children? Just when we thought that the issue of teaching creation vs. evolution school was over, we come to another peg in the ladder. Well which is it that Beatie sins against? God or Science? Well evolutionarily speaking she is nothing if not confused. Born a female, she is compelled to have children, hence the primordial desire to have children. While she can occupy the role of male she can gather resources and protect the family. She physically is a woman, subconsciously is a woman, socially is a man, she feels she is a man. Regardless of her feelings she is a woman. She can no more feel like a man than I could feel like a giraffe. She has no programming; there is nothing, evolutionarily speaking, that tells her how to act like a man.
In regards to her obligations to her creator, she has been weighed and found wanting. She was created as a female and she has spit in the face of her creator and declared herself male. Her pride has come full circle.
If we look at the nurture aspect of things we see that she can no more be a man than I could be a chinese man. As we claw ourselves out of the pit known as relativity we must know that she can never know that is to be a man because she doesn't have the same urges and will never be treated that way universally by others. I couldn't be a Chinese man for the same reasons. I cannot function in Chinese culture. I am not built with Chinese physical characteristics. Even if I was locked in a room with piece of literature or media ever produced by China, I would not be treated by the world as a Chinese man. In closing, we must call a spade a spade. Thomas Beatie you are a mommy. You do a great disservice to society to call yourself different. In the movie "Three men and a baby" all of the men took on different roles relative to the baby, yet they were all fathers to the baby. So do your baby a favor and shave your face. Your effort to be a man is failing and your bonding experience with the baby will dictate that. If you and your "wife" seek to raise a healthy child become healthy yourself. Your body is physically healthy enough to raise a child. Prepare your body mentally.
