It ticks me off a little bit; Gwynn kinda got lost in the Ripken shuffle yesterday. He deserves just about as much credit as Ripken does - playing in San Diego, he never got it. The two years he got into the World Series, he ran into two juggernauts, the '84 Tigers and the '98 Yanks.

My daughter and her family were there, they said that it was really hot, but that they were so glad that they went. I told my 13 yr. old grandson that it's something that when he's my age he'll be able to tell his grandchildren that he was there to see it all, even if he was all the way in the back with a crowd of 75,000 people

That, and the '84 Tigers started 35-5. To put that in perspective, if the Yankees won their first 40 games in 1984, they'd only be 2 1/2 games in front of the Tigers. Just bad luck on Gwynn's part. But you could argue that Gwynn was more consistent over his career than Ripken. Ripken had some plain lousy years.

Sorry you missed it Jack, it was great to be in Cooperstown! We went 3,000 miles to be there. Luckily we had other things to do back east too. Of the 75,000 fans, I would say about 5,000 were Gwynn fans, but we were loud and proud. There was a lot of people in orange there, but they were good to Tony too. At least you got to see Richard Hatch at Comic Con! I am sure that was just as exciting.
Also, glad to see you won the ramblecast poll for theme songs. Although Jay did have a few winners in there, your list was better.

I think that Tony Gwynn is what a sports hero should be to young children, One of the greatest ever, great ballplayer and a wonderful role model. He's never let us down.
