Hi phenominal Jack, I love your podcast. It could be much better if you could please just clear up the annoying static that occurs when you are not speaking. I was listening to the "This Week in Science" podcast 3 weeks ago and Justin briefly mentioned a DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) project about Cyborg sharks that the military could control with neural implants. I IMMEDIATELY thought of Michael and Sawyers shark with the DHARMA logo! I emailed for more information because I could not find anything about it on the DARPA website. They finallly replied with this website. Very interesting and it does give some credibility to the "Lost" shark being controlled by DHARMA. www.livescience.com/scienceoffiction/060307_shark_implant.html " If they can succeed in these experiments, it might be possible to control a free-swimming shark." What do you guys think? Jeff from Tulsa

There's only one question to ask... **In my best Doctor Evil voice** "Are they... ill tempered sharks?"

That's quite interesting. The shark with the Dharma logo was quite a weird thing indeed. I mean why would they mark sharks like that. Or even, why would they wanna own sharks. Unless it's for that very purpose they portrayed in that episode with the Losties on their rafty remains. They even touch upon EM fields on that website, so maybe there's something there too. Dunno, maybe something like: Dharma has set up like these underwater EM walls, that, when breached, trigger a signal in the shark's chip which makes them attack the objects and people that caused the breach. It might work. It might not.
Nice 1st post anyways.

That is very interesting.
The whole Shark with the Dharma logo always seemed a little fishy to me. ;D

Why wouldn't DHARMA slap their logo on the shark - after all it's on just about everything else - except - amazingly - the Apollo bars - hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

the Apollo Bars must have been Desmond's when he crashed. There have also been rumors about testing Dolfins. I just had a thought: why is it that the only Dharma animals we have seen are mean beasts? What I mean to say is, we haven't come across Dharma bunny rabbits. If this is more than coincidence, then we have to wonder why Dharma is interested only in vicious animals, and if this is going to prove a big deal later in the show. I read a book on sharks over the summer, I read two books actually. It almost seems unnatural for the shark to be so close to the shore, I mean, sharks go where there is food. There are fish along the beach, but not fish that would satisfy the likes of a shark large enough to eat a man. Those sharks would prefer to be around seal, but we don't have seal. Also, no one is making themselves readilly available for snacking on, so they aren't there because of the human buffet. It makes sense that they would be incapable of leaving... I don't know, I'm rambling aimlessly, because I'm sick, and this is what I do when I am sick. ~Katie

also birds. It has came up before, but they really dont show alot, if any, birds in the show. I remember one noteable appearance and that was in "Le Territoire Foncé". And that also seemed to be a big vicious bird.. Mayb there's a plotline there.

Maybe the animals that show up are scary predator types because that is what people are afraid of and thus, manifest with their thoughts. If you are out on a raft, what kinds of thoughts would you have? I know I would be afraid of sharks . . . and jellyfish. Walt perhaps manifested the polar bear because of his comic book. Kate manifested a beautiful horse, however.
Of course, maybe the shark is different because it had the logo. We don't know if the other animals have logos or not because they are covered with fur.

Aren't sharks believed to have possible medical value because of their resistance to disease and long life spans? Shark cartilage and all that? Perhaps they're being used in connection with some of the medical projects on the island.

i remember reading about scientists who managed to make a remote controlled living mouse. A remote controlled shark doesn't seem too far fetched.

back to the birds. in the show we don't here any birds. but we should, because they are an a island with a jungle. the jungle should be infested with birds. the only birds we ever see are crows(the sign of death or bad nature) when the black smoke shows up.whats up with that?
