You may not be far off the mark on this crackpot theory. Locke certainly was mentally unstable at that point in his life. Helen could obvioiusly see it. I could see him trying to end it all. His bio-mom used him and tossed him away again, his bio-dad used him for his kidney, and then Helen left him. He did spend a lot of time in his car. Maybe his dad finally came out to the gate and said something that made Locke snap. Then he drove into a concrete wall and woke up in the hospital again, another failure. Then he had a major paradigm shift and decided to live his life to the fullest and was on his way to becoming the Locke we know and love . I don't know about Jack Shephard doing the operation, though. At least I don't think he was the primary surgeon on the case. If so, he would have remembered Locke and Locke certainly would have remembered Jack. However, maybe Jack was called in to assist and then he may have never known or seen Locke, just his vertebrae and spinal cord. He may have just known Locke as "the suicide T10 fracture with the spinal cord injury" or something like that. Overall, I'd have to say I like your theory. It is intelligent and maybe even a little sexy.

Thanks, Rusty. I don't understand a lot of the karma points and teams and stuff, but thanks.

The movie 'Saw 2' made me think exactly the same thing. The guy in that tries to kill himself and fails, and has, to quote annie, 'a paradigm shift'. A conceptual change in his outlook. So yeah, it could be true.
