yeah, christian did have white sneakers on, i noticed because the stood out so much with the black suit (another one of those white and black things i suppose), but i never thought about that first sneaker
bamboo is fairly springy, it's concievable that Jack would survive, at least just as concievable as John Locke getting the ability to walk back, or a moster cloud of dust not killing Eko.

I think he's alive!! The Island has brought him back to life, or maybe he was never dead to begin with! He pretended just to get Jack on the plane...

Jack's father Was Alive, and part of dharma!
Christain Shepard was finished drinking at the bar, grabbed his quater, to call his son. he was about to pick up the phone, when it RANG... he picked up the reciever and it was Alvar hanso, with a job offer!
in order to work for the secret project, on the invisible island, you yourself have to disappear (fake death)!
what if Sayid and Ana Lucia are Moles! Sayid did say to anna "we are already dead." as if to say that they are part of this secret dharma project. both of their lives amounted to nothing, according to them, so who's to say, that they didnt recieve calls from Hanso as well?
