That's quite funny. I can add I think in the 'real' meaning, that R is probably for Research.

Well...I hate to bring up my whole "Asian religious concepts" thing again but...
Dharma is a word, it has a definition. I don't think that it stands for anything in the respect that each letter stands for a seperate word, but rather that the word itself has some meaning in relation to the show.
This is the entry for it on dictionary.com
Hinduism & Buddhism. a.The principle or law that orders the universe. b.Individual conduct in conformity with this principle. c.The essential function or nature of a thing. Hinduism. a.Individual obligation with respect to caste, social custom, civil law, and sacred law. Buddhism. a.The body of teachings expounded by the Buddha. b.Knowledge of or duty to undertake conduct set forth by the Buddha as a way enlightenment. c.One of the basic, minute elements from which all things are made.

That's all true of course. But strangely when I first heard about Dharma, I kept expecting Jenna Elfman to pop up.

I agree with Jay and HJ. Wouldn't it be fun and clever if The Dharma Initiative referred to the Buddhist Dharma AND was also an acronym?
