It seems that desmond knew that he would see jack later on because in the stadium he said, "see ya in another life mate." What do you think?

Hide your babies oliver
But i think the whole desmond is someone powerful isn't true anymore. I thought it at first when Man of Science, Man of Faith came out, but after the episodes that followed i believe that he was just another person that was drawn to the island.

I must admit when Desmond and Jack first met .....in the stadium.....and Jack said he didnt think he had helped Sara ...and Desmond made a smiley, smurky face and asked him, * but what if you did?* it did sound as if Desmond knew something that Jack didnt......

Ya. I think Desmond was most likely someone just "on the island". I don't think there are any special powers. Also, Jay, I thought this was the "Ask Jack" part, and Jack hasn't poked any keys, but you have posted twice?... Aw well, I guess Jay is allowed to intrude sometimes...

The only special powers Desmond has, he's able to hold his breath long enough to swim out to the under water hatch.
Btw: I'm using a number 2 pencil.

THERE IS NO UNDER WATER HATCH!
The cable on the beach was just meant to lure people into Danielle's trap, that or so she could find her way back!
Gah....!

If she wants to find her way back. She should drop bread crumbs.

Yeah, or weird sort of goth canvas finger rings.
I dunno about Desmond having special powers. We will need to wait and see his backstory I think.

It can't be a coincidence that the phrase "See you in another life" denotes reincarnation, which is a major theme of the show. Not to mention the Buddhist reincarnation credo brought into the mix by the use of the terms "Dharma" and "Namaste."
There is a lot of "rebirth" or "redemption" going on as far back as the very overt episode with Charlie's flashback in season 1, where Locke spends a lot of time using a moth as a metaphor for rebirth and redemption for Charlie overcoming his heroin addiction.

I saw the Actor who Plays Desmond on TBN Last night. He was playing Jesus. He was all: "One of you will betray me tonight BROTHA!" Maybe he does have special powers. "Peter You are the rock BROTHA."
