Jay, in the podcast you said you didnt liked that they showed "84 days earliier" and so and so on "expose" but I think it was necessary of them to do that simply because dead people cant have flashbacks. All through the episode I was like: "if theyre dead, how can we see the flashbacks?"
So the fact that the writers decided to specify the days earlier made it believable, like in the other 48 days, no one was really having a flashback, but it was a story being told, of course at the end, we find out they were still alive, but the regular flashback mode could have spoiled that moment.

I thought it was necessary, because we, as hardcore fans of Lost, would have been able to figure out when these events occurred. But your average viewer wouldn't have without the date titles. It's important not to alienate newer or more casual viewers over such a simple thing.
