Desmond = Neo?

This week's episode where the Jewelry Store Lady talked to Desmond reminded me of the Matrix. In the second movie there was a scene where the Oracle sits on bench and talks with Neo about his destiny. This was almost exactly duplicated with Desmond and the Jewelry store lady. She offered him a bag of chestnuts , the Oracle offered Neo a bag of candy. They both talked about destiny and following your path. Maybe the island is a part of the Matrix? Food for thought or maybe the writers are just Matrix fans!
