I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but the lady from the jewelry store was wearing a pin. The pin was a snake eating its own tail, which is also called Ouroboros. Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry about it - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouroboros. It is an ancient symbol that means unity or a vicious circle. It would make sense because Desmond seems like he is in a vicious circle.
