I would personally start with "Deloused in the Cormatorium", or "Frances the Mute" but even then your probably going to have to give the album some time to let it sink in. They can be abraisive at first. Its definitly aquired listening, but once you get what they are doing you'll love them to death.

The first song I listened to was "The Widow" from "Frances the Mute" I think ... and yeah it's definitely a good way to become an addict

That tends to be the case with alot of prog stuff though. But its been forever since I've been on here. I've missed you guys. Life sorta took me by storm.

Whoa! TMV Craze! I started with 'Deloused in the Cormatorium' too, and was blown away. I'm used to hearing music like this, so it didn't take me long to get hooked. Speaking of all this craze, I found this article about the band posted on Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll blog, and it doesn't sound good: [glow=red,2,300] The Mars Volta Blame Band Split On 'Tyranny of Laziness'[/glow]: Cedric reveals rift to Gigwise... by James Mills on 10/2/2006 The Mars Volta have blamed drummer Jon Theodore’s departure from the band on his flirtations with women, drink and surfing. Theodore contributed to the prog outfit’s current album ‘Amputecture’, but left shortly before its release. Shedding light on the split, band lynchpin Cedric Zavala explains to Gigwise: "We come to a city, and we play one album live, but we're making another album during the day and then after we play. And Jon just wasn't having that. Jon likes his women, Jon likes his surfing, Jon likes his drinking. “You can ask any fan that was in Hamburg when we played for Frances the Mute, we were set to play the last thirty minutes of the set and Jon took off, because the night before he partied too much.” He continued: “We had five years of a tyranny of laziness, he just didn't like to throw down as much as we did. When he did care about the band it's when it was a money issue, that's when he would show up to a meeting. “God bless him, he's a great drummer, but the guy was late for his own funeral as well: we were telling him he wasn't in the band he didn't even show up to that meeting - an analogy for the whole time we were in the band with him." www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=23039

But they kicked out their drummer Steven Adler for drug abuse/partying.

That's a terrible habit, but if its better for the band I won't complain. I'm really glad the guys have the discipline to really focus on their music instead of everything else that comes with fame.
