I just want to thank you for promoting such a great album in your sig. I have all their previous records and I just bought Amputecture yesterday and was blown away by just the first track. I'm still listening to it now, but I didn't know prog rock could be so good! They always surprise me. I read in a Rolling Stone review from one of their past records that Bixler-Zavala's high pitched voice was " -- the closest thing in post-rock to Robert Plant's banzai-blues wail in Led Zeppelin". Since you study music, I thought you may agree.

To me... They are the closest thing to get what Zeppelin was about, since Zeppelin. Cedric knows how to use his voice so well, it gives me goosebumps and there are only three people that have done that to me (Cedric, Jeff Buckley, and Robert Plant) I have all of there albums, live albums, and EP's they are truly a special band that i love a lot. Of course At The Drive In (Cedric and Omar's previous band) isn't too shabby either

Yes! I really think they are going to keep getting better, just like Zeppelin and I read they already are planning an new record for next year! His voice is one of the main reasons why I love this band, it is so unique. I have heard of At The Drive In, but I need to get some of their stuff - it should be good. I kinda got confused when I first heard of the band because they changed some of the members and it was sad to hear that Ward died in 2003, of a drug overdose. So sad you could hear it in their songs. But its cool to know they are my fellow Texans from El Paso!

In At The Drive In his voice is a lot different, a lot harder in punk sensibilty, but great none the less it fits the music that they made relly well If I would check out a CD by them I would get their last one before they broke up "Relationship of Command" a very good album

Thanks for the tip. I usually like to start at the beginning of a bands discography just to see how they change over time, but I guess I can work backwards this time.

I agree with you point, but if your transitioning from TMV "Relationship of Command" will be your best bet

Alrighty! Thanks again. It should be interesting to see where TMV originated from, they basically came outta no where.

The Darkness? That's kinda insulting. They don't take themselves seriously enough like TMV to make a decent record.

Yeah the Darkness is kind of a hair band wanna be band. Now don't get me wrong there is a time and place were I do enjoy the Darkness, but The Mars Volta is like a fine art, its so musically complex the rhythms are just so good I can just get lost in their music. Unfortunately the Darkness doesn't have that quality.

As a Fine Arts major, I like that comparison you made to TMV's music. ;D They do what they do best, and just rock. They don't need that kind of hair band gimmick The Darkness have to get people to like their music. Listening to them make me wish MORE bands were like this, but they are so way ahead of other bands its rediculous. I was listening to them again today, and love how they get into a habit of making some of their songs on their records so long, its beautiful.

Im not saying i love the darkness more tha TMV, i am just sayin' they are similar in a way. i love TMV more than the darkness because like you guy's said they are mysterious and cool like Led Zeppelin, i was just making a comparison.

The Mars Volta is amazing and I gave Jay a kudos a long time ago when he first mentioned them on the podcast. I haven't picked up their latest though.
But if you like prog rock and are into the high pitched vocals and all that, I highly highly highly recommend Coheed and Cambria.
