Let me throw out another idea here.
I think Eko has a connection with the dead "Priest" in the beachcraft. And that priest was the replacement for the station #3.
Eko has somehow supposed to end up on the island to replace the priest at station #3.
Because Desmond left before Eko got there, he didn't get asked about the snowmen, to which Eko has the right answer.
Just another crazy theory.

It's not that crazy. My sister and I also thought that Eko might be Desmond's replacement. I hope we are right. That could be interesting.

Yep, but then that would mean the plane was intended to crash here. And that would make sense, because there are a lot of demented minds in the world. Reading this little post of mine over, I realize it's kinda hard to understand, but it makes perfect sense in my head...

I'm wondering about the right answer to the riddle.
Here's some of my ideas.
1. Man, it's cold outside! 2. Hey! loose the hair dryer! 3. What are you doing with that carrot? 4. What are you suppose to look like? 5. I'm your replacement! 6. So? Is it happy hour already? 7. Do you feel like you're melting today? 8. I have a message from Kalvin! ... sorry Calvin!
Cheers!

I don't know if this helps with that but here is a quote from p 153 of the paperback eddition of Watership Down (if you don't remember, Boon owned that book and Sawyer was reading it). This quote is from the part of the story where the main set of rabits is almost out of danger. They run into some other rabits from their old home. These other rabits have had a much harder time than them and are in bad shape. Bluepell has been keeping them going by telling jokes. " 'I'ts Dandelion,' said Hazel. 'Listen---I can see that you're exhausted, but but we can't stay here. We're in danger. Can you come with us into our holes?' 'Captain,' said Bluebell, 'do you know what the first blade of grass said to the second blade of grass?' Hazel looked at him sharply, but Holly replied, 'Well?' 'It said, 'Look, there's a rabit! We're in danger!' ' "
I don't know what it has to do with answering the snowman question but it caught my eye.
