I thought that it was very interesting that Rousseau said that after 2 months on the island the sickness took her group one by one. She also said that the others were the carriers of the sickness, although she claimed to have never seen an other, just heard the whispers (epi 1x09)
Fast forward to "The Hunting Party" - I thought it was very odd to have "Mr. Friendly", an other, say to Jack that they had been there almost two whole months when Jack told them that they had been marooned for 50 days. Why say that? I remember when I first watched it I thought that was very odd, that he would specifically say two months.
How many days has it been for them on the island as of the last episode - maybe five or six at the most.
I think that as we hit the 60-70 day marks things are going to start getting intesting with the sickness, and the others know this, based on Mr. Friendly' comment.
Anyway, random small little thing, but worth noting I think.

When Zeke asked Jack how long the were on the island, Jack replied, "44 days." I don't think that they have even hit the 50 day mark.

Yeah, I am waiting for "the sickness" to show up soon, too.

You know what, I think you are right. I think it was 40-something days. I pulled 50 from one of the transcript sites, but I agree it was like 44 days. I remember thinking when I first saw the Mr Friendly scene that rounding the number up to 2 months really seemed odd to me.
Not important enough to go download the episode and rewatch though :-)

He would not have replied "44 days" The groups didn't meet up until 48 days.... Then, we have to have time for everyone to get back together, sawyer to heal up, michael to learn of the video, the bunker, learn how to shoot, have more than one conversation on the bunker computer, hit locke in the head, take off and then be followed for nearly a day of tracking (left in daylight stopped in darkness)... so it must be more than 48... 50-something is probably much closer...

Plus, we might have seen the sickness already, it just might not be affecting our losties like it affected Danielle's castaways. When I get the flu, I don't get a fever, I sneeze, and get chills first, and then eventually near the end of it, I get a fever. My mom can get the same flu (most likely from me) and she runs a fever pretty much from the start. So, suppose that instead of running a fever, someone like- oh, say Charlie has the sickness. He is having visions, that are endangering others on the island. He didn't look so good the last episode, is he back on drugs, or is it the sickness. Michael might have had the sickness too,- he looked rough,- and losing your kid is really hard, but he went a little overboard punching out Locke- Locke would have given him a gun and then when he was out of sight, he could have jetted. He didn't HAVE to hurt Locke, or lock him up... so, was it the sickness leading him? HAs it begun to rot his mind? Also, we have to ask, why didn't Danielle get sick? Or is Danielle sick? If we answer no to the second one, than we can conclude a) she has access to some type of sickness killing antibody, or b) she is immune naturally. If there is some form of antibiotic to protect the losties, maybe something Dharma created, then maybe that's why Ethan took Claire, to inject it into her fetus. In third world countries- and possibly here, I'm not sure... they will inject pregnant women with life saving antibiotics that will protect them AND the baby- a two for one deal. Also, sometimes preventative measures can backfire, and so instead of saving the baby it made him sick. OR, what if instead of finishing the treatment, Claire ran away, condemning her child unknowingly. OR, maybe I'm crazy, and there's no truth in any of this.

I really like that idea of the others wanting to immunize Claire. Makes a lot of sense. I remember seeing a flash of a syringe in the trailer for the next episode, perhaps the same thing Desmond injected himself with? Charlie, on the other hand, I dont think he had the sickness at all. He had the same type of vivid halucinations that Boon had in the first season, caused by the paste-like ointment Lock applied to his forehead. I am almost convinced Locke caused Charlies episodes. To my recollection, he hasnt been "using" for a while and he wouldn't *just now* start going through withdrawls...
But yeah, I'd put money on the baby shots idea... I mean, she doesnt know how she really got back to the camp. They had to have let her go... So they were helping her, but really it's in their best interest to help her. They need a healthy child for their "manifestation through willpower" experiments... but thats a completely different topic....

that would mean that next episode would likely be the 2nd month.
Katie, you're on a roll with those theories. I think your 6 posts have more content then all of mine combined...

I bet whatever Desmond injected himself with is an antibiotic/cure to stop the sickness. Besides whats already been said, I remember that before Claire was taken when she was attacked near the caves she said he tried to inject her with something. It must be the same stuff.
