Hmmmm, while watching the Fire+Water episode I noticed something weird. It wasn't hidden at all in fact I thought that it was displayed very prominently - Eko was marking seemingly random trees with Xs. Charlie asked what he was doing and Eko's only response was "I'm marking the trees that I like"...uhhhhh - wtf? I haven't heard any buzz about this but thought that it was very interesting.
Has anyone heard anything about this or have any theories, cause I'm just confused.

he might be using them to make more jesus sticks.
seriously, i think he might be using tmen to build his shelter. everyone else has one, why not eko?
i think that eko is going to build his shelter right on the edge of the jungle, He will be the first Line of Defense, when it come to the others vs. the survivors!

I believe in the latest promo shots for maternity leave that eko is carrying around a large cut tree trunk. Looks to be building something -prolly related.

Am I the only one who thinks he is not only going to build a structure, but a more stable and permanent one that that. No more of these tied off tarps and bamboo, but an honest to god building of some kind. Be it a log cabin or more of a island hut I don't know, but most definitely a real structure that will last longer than the other in case a storm or assault came through.
This structure I could also see being more than just a living space for Mr. Eko. I see it being a spiritual base for him and those who seek it. The first Church on the island. The First Christian Church of Eko. It will serve as the centerpiece of their new village. It will start the idea of physical and spiritual protection being the same for many of them.
They have to start giving up on the idea of a quick rescue and start planning for the future. Their shanty town has worked well as their temporary housing, but without rescue on the horizon and the now tangible dangers in the woods, they need to think about real protection and safety. Mr. Eko seems the type to think this way and start the planning off right (at least the way he would see it), with a spiritual structure in the center of it all.
I know a lot of the talk seems be about building more Jesus Sticks (which I know is a joke for the most part) or weapons of some kind, but I think that is really off base. Not only for the show but for what we have seen from Mr. Eko on the island. Except for his outburst when attacked (which he repented for) he has been one of the strongest proponents of peace, stopping to think, and waiting for things to cool down before acting. He would not be one to be making weapons of war at this point.

Eko seems more like Yoda or Mr. Myagi now and violence is a last resort.
