I was confused last night when Sawyer got grazed on the cheek by a bullet. At first I thought Sawyer had fired his gun and the bullet richocheted. Then I was really confused about what it could have richocheted off of. Then I thought maybe someone unseen in the jungle shot at him. Can anyone clarify?

I think it was an electro-magnetic thing. It sounded like a ricochet and not a second gunshot.
In the dark, there could have been some sort of thin layer of nanobots (muhahaha) btwn them... or just a specific spot of security because of the magnetic field or something. Why would they shoot Sawyer in the neck in the dark? They would take a chance of killing him, and clearly that was not the point of the meeting. So, i think it was his own bullet...

i was thinking one of the Others in the woods shot him. That was my guess.
I want to know why he said that Mr. Friendly shot him, when it was actually one of the shady characters on the boat.

Good point ... I was trying to remember who had shot him and I thought it was someone else as well. Maybe Sawyer doesn't really remember or maybe Sawyer holds Mr Friendly responsible since he was the obvious leader of the boat seabillies.

Posted this already in the thread about this episode, but Javier on the fuselage board stated that Sawyer was shot by an other and not a ricochet.
I agree that it was confusing and a not very well edited scene - I was sure it was a ricochet until I read the post from Javier.

I agree that it was poor editing and not a force shield of some sort. The only thing I heard was a single gun shot, and I think a bullet would make some noise if it was bouncing off something.

Actually it was partially the sound of the shot that made me think it was a ricochet - it didn't sound like a normal shot. I think tied to the expressions on everyone's face afterward, I thought there was something more significant going on.
