i keep hearing theories about how everyone on the island is supposedly good but flawed and in need of redemption. and people talk about locke as if he's ambiguously good and evil. my question is: what evil have we seen in locke? he's been portrayed as nothing but a sympathetic light in all his flashbacks. and aside from getting boone killed --which the show made a point of portraying was entirely an accident and which locke tried to prevent-- what flaws has he really shown?

Well, I'm not sure I'd let Locke off that easy after Boone's death. Also, with Kate going down the hole - not really blaming him, Kate's an adult and can make her own decisions - but he had to know it was dangerous, and he was the most tactically adept. KO'd Sayid and lied about it. Hid his knowledge about the hatch. Et cetera. I think you can make a case for Locke being manipulative to a certain extent.
That said, there's a large chunk of Locke's past which we have yet to learn about.

Locke himself said he "used to have anger problems." Is he really over that? We shall see.
