Well, yet another mini mystery solved. Jack's wife broke his heart! Anyway, I thought it was very cool how the over all theme for this episode was not crossing the lines. Jack's father told him to be careful and not cross the line between patient and too personal, and then on the island the boundary between the supposed others and our favorite flight 815 survivors. This whole show has this theme, about trust, and who to believe. Now if we only knew if they're going to stay away from this line...something tells me someone will cross it!

Meh. I didn't like Jack's flashback and reason for their marriage ending all that much. I guess I was just expecting something original and more satisfying. I mean when Jack started kissing Gabrielle, I just started cursing at the writers, because I really didn't want it to end that way. I mean it was kind of a cool twist that Sarah was already seeing someone anyway, but I just really don't like the idea of an affair being the end of the marriage.
But I suppose the theme was well done in the episode. And the ending line about the armies. That was cool.

I just laughed and said, "Holy Sh**," when Christian told Jack not to cross the line and Jack said something like "you oughta know." I thought "HJ may be right!!!"
Regarding armies, I agree with you guys on the podcast. Why ask Ana Lucia about training an army? Why not Sayid? I mean, he was in the infamous Republican Guard for pete's sake. And why not Eko? He ought to know a thing or two about training guerillas himself.

It would give her something to do other than feel sorry for herself, think of how much everyone hates her and stare at the sea. ;D

I would bet that whoever Jack's wife was "seeing" turns out to be connected to the island in some way....
....and HJ's theory doesn't seem so far-fetched....

I'm not sure, but the way Jack made a bee-line to Ana Lucia I think he knows she's isolated and may be more willing to work with Jack to accomplish his goals. I think he understands that one of the reasons that she is is isolated is that she took a hard line in defense of her people against the Others and that she won't have any qualms about using violence (as opposed to Sayid or Eko).

I could picture Sayid being a leader. Eko may be too religious to kill again. Who knows.

O.K., Matt. I think you have a good point there. Ana Lucia has a personal history with the Others that Sayid does not. Therefore Sayid may have a lot of resistance to Jack's plan. Ana Lucia also knows what they are capable of. Eko may be too much of a pacifist now. Still, I think they need to recruit Sayid for REAL Army/Combat training. Police work just isn't the same.

I just don't see Sayid and Eko going along with it that easily. They have a capacity for violence, but they also seem to have a greater understanding of the long-term consequences of violence, which Ana Lucia is just starting to grasp after killing Shannon.
I could see Sayid going along with it more than Eko; I think Sayid is rational enough to see that it is actually The Others who are to blame for Shannon's death, since Ana Lucia was trying, in good faith, to protect her band from the Others who had plagued her group since the first attack.

I thnk you are right in that Jack goes to Ana because she will go with it. If he went to Eko or Sayid, they would try to talk him out of it. So, she goes along with it, and they train some of those "extra"'s who never get really named or seen. Then, there is enough of a push for it, that the other people go for it. Does anyone else think this is completely out of character for Jack to suggest an army? ??

I think that's one of the major story arcs we're looking at, the corruption of Jack's character. Basically, the Losties are his collective patient, the Others are the virus, and he's preparing a cure.
