If the descriptions for the new episodes are true:
- Truth about Jack and Sara marriage - Truth about Locke's paralysis - Identity of the real Mr. Sawyer
So if if take into account that we have already learned Kate's initial crime, could it be possible that after this season's finale when we are to learn about the reason of the crash, that we're going to have backstories of the characters explaining the reasons why they have been chosen to take Oceanic 815 and crash with the other survivors ?

I doubt it. I think that even if they do "reveal" it, it won't be the full story.

Every answer leads to bigger and bigger questions. I thought (lamely) that some sort of monster was going to be in the hatch...it turned out to be a multi-layerd private organization! I think they want to prolong their cash cow as long as possible.

I'm somewhat positive that each of the "main" survivors won't even get a flashback of their own this season, what with the rate they are going. Jack and Locke are both getting second flashback episodes, whereas Sayid, Claire, Charlie, Bernard and Rose, Libby, and Cindy haven't even gotten flashbacks yet this season. That, and Bernard and Rose is rumored to have a flashback episode next season. Also Desmond and Rousseau will both get flashbacks at some point in the series, so if not this season, its possible next season.
Most of, if not all of Charlie's issues have been resolved already, yet he's getting an episode after Jack, meaning that something new will be more than likely brought up. Odds are, that's what is going to end up happening with most of the other characters. Meaning that they will have flashbacks which will bring something new to the board, which I'm guessing will tie into the island somehow. Also Ana-Lucia and Mr. Eko are the only tailies who have had or will be having flashback episodes in the near future, meaning that they will definitely be having more to come, along with the other tailies.
They have lots of options to work with, so I wouldn't bank on them going in a completely new direction. I'm also rather sure that at least a couple more characters will be introduced from now until the end of the season, so they could get flashbacks of their own as well.
What's really on my mind is how they're planning on ending this season. Last season it was the whole deal with the hatch. What will it be this time?

think that we are going to find out that these characters are somehow connected in their pre-crash lives. I still think that they have been fed these memories or that these memories are from a parallel universe, but even if not, I think that we are going to learn that their lives are very interconnected, even without their knowledge. I also don't think we know all we need to about Charlie. I think we also need to learn alot more about Sayid, Hurley, Libby, Claire, and of course, Micheal and Walt, Sun and Jin. I've also heard that Vincent will have his own flashback (don't remember where I read it). That should be very interesting. That dog may have alot of connections <g>.

I do think that they flashback will be multi-layered this way:
Phase One: Flashback to define who the characters are ? Phase Two: Flashback to explain why they have been chosen by Dharma ?
We're still in phase one, but I think that next year, we're going more flashbacks relating the survivors with Dharma and less flashback to explain what define them.
Those future flashback will tell us if some of the survivors are more special than others and who just happen to be in the wrong place at the bad time.
